Taylor AB1

Taylor Guitars of El Cajon, California is a mid-to-high-end manufacturer of acoustic guitars. They also make the AB series of Acoustic Bass Guitars in smaller numbers. These instruments were designed by Steve Klein and Bob Taylor. The prototypes of these basses were built by Steve Klein and Steve Kaufmann, feedback from Bay Area session bassist Bobby Vega.

The Taylor AB basses feature Steve Klein's signature Kasha-inspired design features, including radial fan braces, an offset soundhole, and asymmetrical bridge.

The initial prototypes were braced lightly built very deep, but production models were made thinner in order to fit in Taylor's ultraviolet finish-curing booth. Production models are also more stiffly braced, though the braces can be shaved and the instrument re-voiced through the access door.

Note: It appears that Taylor has stopped production of these basses. I'd appreciate production dates if anyone has them.
